Shieldaig is a "rising star" for tourism on the west coast and looks set to follow Plockton, Applecross and Torridon as a holiday destination. Shieldaig really comes to life in the summer season and hosts numerous community events such as the annual fate, the skiff race around the island, and many other events. The area has an abundance of wild life including Sea eagles, red deer, otter and pine martins.   Although the chalet is nearer Shieldaig it is located on the Applecross peninsular one of the earliest centres of Christianity in Scotland.  In the year 673 ad, the Monk Maelrubha, having alighted on the southern shores of the Peninsula, established a monastery at Applecross declaring the surrounding area a sanctuary.   Even today, the Applecross Peninsula still provides sanctuary to those wishing to escape the pressures of modern living and who wish to enjoy the romance and tranquillity of this most beautiful part of Scotland.   The North Coast 500 route passes through the village which has been a popular tourist destination for over 30 years. The wild and picturesque landscape has been the backdrop to many film and tv programs including James Bond Skyfall, channel 4’s Time Team, BBC’s Monty Halls Great Escape, and Top Gear.  Shieldaig has one restaurant/pub, one café, a post office/shop, and a number of souvenir shops.
