About Alness:

Alness is located on the shores of the beautiful Cromarty Firth just 20 miles north of Inverness. The town is comprised of two parishes, Alness and Rosskeen, divided by the River Averon. Alness was originally a small crofting township opposite the old Kirk at Rosskeen. Since then the town has grown significantly and is now a vibrant, rural town of approximately 6,000 inhabitants, its main expansion was in the nineteenth century at the hands of Captain Hugh Munro of Teaninich, who also founded Teaninich Distillery in 1817.  Alness has a wide variety of shops, businesses, hotels, the Alness campus of the University of the Highlands and Islands, a secondary school and three primary schools offering a good level of education, with a focus on the community. The picturesque High Street has had great success with 'Britain in Bloom' and won the coveted title of 'Best High Street in Scotland' at the Great British High Street Awards in 2018.
