The sleepy little village of Drumnadrochit lies within the Highland local government council area in Scotland – roughly 15 miles to the south-west of Inverness. Nestled away on the western shore of the famous Loch Ness, Drumnadrochit has become something of a hotspot for the cult of the mythical Loch Ness monster. The village attracts a number of visitors year round who are all eager to try and get a glimpse of the fabled monster of the Loch.
Drumnadrochit takes its name from the Gaelic ‘Druim na Drochaid’ – which translates to the English ‘Ridge of the Bridge’. This name refers to the bridge that spanned the River Enrick, which the settlement of Drumnadrochit originally grew up around
When it comes to education, Drumnadrochit is home to two schools: one at the primary level and one at the secondary level. There are currently 130 pupils enrolled at Glenurquhart Primary School. The school performs relatively well on a national level, with 90% and 66% of students at the P7 level performing well or very well in reading and numeracy respectively.
Teenage children will most likely find themselves enrolling at Glen Urquhart High School. At present, there are 210 students on the school’s roll – which makes for a tiny school when you consider the size of some other high schools around the UK! Of the students leaving school at the S5 level, 37% gain five or more SCQF qualifications, which is higher than the national average of 29% at the same level.

There are a number of buses in Drumnadrochit providing residents with transport to and from a small handful of destinations in the surrounding areas. These destinations include Inverness, Lewiston, Inshes, Fort William, Fort Augustus and Portree to name a few.
